Sam and his counterpart, Samael. They're technically the same person - I just wanted to illustrate them both in the same picture.

Sam is short for Samael, who is the angel of death. When Sam encounters people in need of help, he helps them, but unknowingly becomes a sign for their death, and with each person met, the more he becomes his counterpart.

I imagine Sam is just wanting to help people, but they ultimately die. He must not be too happy about that.

Samael, on the other hand, knows that it is, and it must be.

Cope, Sam, cope. Have an apple, will you?
