Assignment for my Illustrated Notebook class, where we've basically been given this old antique book to paint over the pages in. The teacher wants us to create illustrations based off of very vague prompts and prefers we go right into it without thumbnailing or planning things out.
This one is part of a "reincarnation" series. This is a digitally painted version of one I did in my little notebook (pictures to come soon? Who knows) and my roommate told me about a tree in Hiroshima that's just now beginning to grow back through itself since the bombings. This has a tiny little special place inside of the warm and squishy me because of that. :> So yeah, it's simple, simply rendered, as it was just intended to be a larger version of the painted page.
